Policing Environmental Injustice

چکیده

Environmental justice (EJ) activists have long worked with abolitionists in their communities, critiquing the ways policing, prisons, and pollution are entangled racially constituted. Yet, much EJ scholarship reflects a liberal Western focus on more equal distribution of harms, rather than challenging underlying systems exploitation these harms rest upon. This article argues that policing facilitates environmentally unjust developments inherently harmful to nature society. Policing helps enforce social order rooted ‘securing’ property, hierarchy, human-nature exploitation. Examining colonial continuities we argue must challenge assumed necessity overcome mythology state as ‘arbiter justice’, work create conditions which is unnecessary. will help open space question other related hegemonic principles. drives environmental injustice, so embrace abolition.
